Antique Caucasian Kaftan - Handwoven Silk Kutnu
From the Private Collection of Tayfun Utkan
A rare cultural heirloom reflecting the elegance of traditional Anatolian and Caucasian textile artistry.
This exceptional Caucasian kaftan, dating back approximately 70–80 years, was discovered by renowned collector Tayfun Utkan during one of his journeys through Eastern Anatolia, a region where centuries-old weaving traditions still echo through time.
The outer fabric is crafted from handwoven silk kutnu, a prestigious textile historically favored in ceremonial garments for its luminous texture and refined durability. The interior is lined with locally handwoven natural cotton fabric, offering both structure and comfort while preserving its authentic character.
Every detail of the kaftan reflects master craftsmanship:
its borders, trims, and decorative elements are entirely handmade, showcasing the patience, skill, and artistry of traditional textile artisans.
Rich in color, symbolism, and cultural memory, this piece stands as both a wearable artifact and a collectible work of textile heritage.
