From the ancient looms of Central Anatolia to the weaving workshops of the Ottoman era, Turkish textiles have always carried more than just threads — they carried stories, symbols, and a way of life.
At Derviş Natural Textile, we have devoted over 30 years to sustaining this heritage. Our main mission is to preserve the ancient techniques of Anatolian hand-looming and merge them with timeless, modern designs.
Anatolian looming has been practiced for thousands of years; handwoven fabrics have been discovered in archeological sites all over the region. In addition to being useful, woven fabrics had deep symbolic meaning; every pattern and motif had a connotation, ranging from blessings of abundance and love to protection symbols.
Because of their lightweight yet incredibly absorbent structure—achieved through a special flat-weave technique—Turkish towels, or peştemals, became legendary in Ottoman hammams. Master weavers committed to preserving the tradition continue to use this technique, which hasn't changed in centuries.
